Not just the buildings.

December 11, 2009

Tonight I was walking up 3rd Avenue in the East Village, around 4th or 5th street. The Empire State Building loomed in the distance, with the Met Life Tower in the foreground. Both of them looked like they were mere blocks away, when in reality they were twenty and thirty blocks off. It’s the way New York City is–everything is so big that it all seems like it’s right within reach.

With just the right amount of haze in the air, NYC looks like a painted backdrop to me. I love when that happens.
